NYSSMA stands for New York State School Music Association. Every year, in the Spring, thousands of students all across the state perform in front of adjudicators (judges) for evaluation. Instead of calling it a Solo Festival, we say, “going to NYSSMA.”

The best performances are by those students who are very well prepared.
