I remember when I first started playing trumpet, almost 40 years ago.
The Band Director, who was also a trumpet player, would give us an assignment in the Breeze Easy book every week and expect us to figure out how to play it by the next week.
If we didn't get it or do well, he would embarrass us in front of the class.
We were never told how to practice our instrument or the assignment.
No wonder a starting class of 27 trumpets dwindled down to 8 by the end of the year!
If I didn't have my older sister helping me figure out how to play trumpet, I too would have dropped out.
Over the years, I figured out a way to focus my practice routine so that I hit upon all the main parts that were important for making progress.
It helped me get accepted into All County Bands and Jazz Bands every year, and All State Band in high school.
My method helped me get accepted into New England Conservatory, Berklee, Boston Conservatory and more music schools.
My method gave me the confidence to perform with great artists such as Richie Cannata (saxophonist from Billy Joel's band), Vicci Martinez (Season 1 Finalist from The Voice), Bobby Rondinelli (drummer from Blue Oyster Cult and Black Sabbeth), Blues saxophonist Bobby Hurricane Spencer, legendary Jazz singer Barbara Morrison and many others.
I have had the honor of performing on many of the major stages in the NY, Los Angeles and Las Vegas metro areas.
I have used this method with my students over the past 25 years and they have been accepted into Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music and many more colleges across the country.
My adult students have been able to perform with local cover bands and community bands every week after implementing my system to set goals and focus their practice sessions each day to achieve them.
